School officials playing waiting game on weather
The Western News | The Western News | UPDATED 5 days, 15 hours AGO
Following a high wind warning by the National Weather Service, school officials in south Lincoln County are playing a waiting game on whether classes will be held Thursday.
According to an announcement on the Libby Public Schools webpage, if Libby Middle High School or Libby Elementary School does not have power, school will be canceled. Students will not be brought into a building without electricity.
If the power outage is expected to be short-lived, a two-hour delay may be implemented. Any schedule changes will be announced shortly after 5 a.m. Thursday, as circumstances require and allow.
All updates and decisions will be communicated via ParentSquare, Facebook and posted on the school website.
At Troy, the decision to not have school will be determined by power outages and fallen trees hindering traffic's ability to get students to school.
If school is cancelled, the announcement will be made on the school's Facebook page.
Forecasters are predicting southwest winds from 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 70 mph in the Kootenai/Cabinet region.
Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Officials are recommending people remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive.
