Chiefs Claim Divisional Crown
The second-rated Ronan Chiets came out in the second half of the Western Class "A" Divisional Championship battle in Kalispell Saturday with a zone defense that strangled the top-seeded Hamilton Broncs and ran off with a 55-34 victory, the divisional title, and a berth in state tournament action.
The State Class "A" Tourney will be held March 9-11 at the Metra in Billings.
Ronan's change from a man-to-man to a zone defense proved to be a key to the Chiefs' victory. King led all scorers with 24 points.
King, Roger Starkel and Scott Bockman teamed up to push the Chiefs to a 6-2 lead in the opening minutes of the first period, but a one-man effort by Hamilton's Jim Clark turned the top honors over to Hamilton 10-8 …

Salish and Kootenai Tribal Officers will meet with Bonneville Power Administration President Stuart Monroe, Monday, March 6, to discuss BPA's plans to construct twin 500-Kilovolt power lines across the Flathead Indian Reservation.
Bonneville Power negotiated with the tribe last spring for an easement for the power lines, but negotiations broke off last summer when the tribe turned down BPA's offer of over $15 million over a 50-year period for the right of way.
This winter, BPA announced that it would seek congressional approval for the power company to construct the lines within an existing easement across the reservation.
The move by BPA was followed by an announcement by the tribe that they have instructed their Washington, D.C. attorneys to file suit against the federal utility if they go ahead with plans to construct the lines without negotiating with the tribe for a new lease.
Allard said that the meeting does not mean that negotiations have resumed. He pointed out that the tribe, as well as BPA, has new officials since negotiations broke down last year …
