He is survived by his daughter, Julia Langwel (Tom); son, Steve Kluver (Pixie); and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At the young age of 8, his family packed up and headed to Idaho in hopes of homesteading after the Dust Bowl.

Alvin spent his younger years in the Oden area and attended school there. He graduated from Sandpoint High School in 1948 where he played football under Coach Cotton Barlow. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Air Force with his life-long friend, Don Johnson. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he returned to Sandpoint and began his career at the Colburn mill where he retired in 1992.

Among Al’s accomplishments were coaching his boy’s football and baseball teams in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a baseball umpire and spent many years hauling the boys to freestyle wrestling tournaments.

He was president of the Co-op Credit Union, Westside Fire Chief, Timberfest Bull of the Woods in 2000 and he was part of the SHS Football Chain Gang for many years. He was also a member of the Elk’s Lodge for 63 years. He was a huge supporter of Bulldogs sports and never missed an opportunity to attend an event.

Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and golf. He was a master gardener and like to smoke fish, can vegetables out of his garden and make his famous mustard dill pickles and sauerkraut.

Al always had a project going, whether it was remodeling a section of his house, building birdhouses, a shed or just something for fun.
