The junior from Coeur d'Alene High and North Idaho College was named Cascade Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Week. Schmidt struck out 12 batters in 12 innings last week for the fourth-ranked NAIA Owls (19-3, 5-1 CCC) of Klamath Falls, Ore., allowing just four hits and no earned runs for a perfect ERA and a 0.65 WHIP. In a four-game series last weekend against Simpson in Redding, Calif., Schmidt got the save in Friday's opener, then threw five-plus innings of one-hit ball in a no-decision in the nightcap. On Saturday, Schmidt scattered three hits and allowed an unearned run in the opener.
