Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is proud to recognize Scott Wardian, athletic trainer at the Cabinet Peaks Orthopedic Clinic, for his dedicated service to student athletes at Libby Middle High School.
Through this partnership, Wardian’s athletic training services are essentially donated to the school, ensuring local athletes have access to on-site medical expertise throughout the sports seasons. He is also available for injury evaluation and management between seasons and is available over the summer for continuing rehab or management of new issues that arise when school is not in session.
Libby High School Middle School Activities Director Nik Rewerts was enthusiastic with his praise for what Wordian means to the student athletes.
"The community at Libby High School is incredibly grateful to have Scott serving as the school’s athletic trainer through Cabinet Peaks Medical Center," Rewerts said. "His presence on the sidelines and behind the scenes plays a vital role in keeping student-athletes healthy, safe and able to compete at their best.
"Every practice, game and event carries the risk of injury and Scott’s expertise ensures that our athletes receive immediate, professional care when they need it most. From evaluating injuries and providing treatment to helping athletes recover and return to play safely, he brings a level of medical knowledge and professionalism that is invaluable to our programs."
Rewerts also explained Wordian's impact beyond the medical care he provides.
"Scott is a trusted resource for coaches, athletes and families. He takes the time to educate students on injury prevention, proper recovery and overall athletic health. His dedication allows our coaches to focus on developing athletes while knowing their safety is in capable hands.
"The partnership between Libby High School athletics and Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is something our community deeply appreciates. Having someone as committed and knowledgeable as Scott supporting our student-athletes makes a tremendous difference," Rewerts said.
As the athletic trainer for LMHS, Wardian provides on-site coverage for practices and home events, delivering critical injury assessment, evaluation, and therapeutic intervention. A key component of his role includes emergency preparedness and critical incident management. From acute fractures and dislocations to unexpected medical situations, having a trained medical professional present ensures prompt and appropriate care when it matters most.
“There are a wide range of injuries and conditions that student athletes can experience,” Wardian said. “While many are minor, some require immediate attention. Having an athletic trainer on-site helps athletes, coaches, and parents determine what is safe to work through and what needs further medical evaluation.”
Beyond emergency response, Wardian plays an important role in injury prevention and rehabilitation. He works closely with injured athletes to evaluate their condition, develop safe recovery plans, and guide them back to participation as efficiently and safely as possible. He also serves as an educational resource for coaches, parents, and school staff, helping them understand injury progression, prevention strategies, and appropriate next steps for care.
Wardian, who arrived in Libby near three years ago, emphasizes the importance of understanding the athletic trainer’s role. Athletic trainers are medical professionals trained in injury assessment, rehabilitation and emergency care. While some may also hold certifications in personal training or strength and conditioning, their primary focus is medical management and therapeutic rehabilitation. He also encourages the community to recognize the importance of rest and balanced training in injury prevention.
"Libby athletics is proud to work alongside Scott and we are extremely thankful for the care, time and commitment he gives to our students every day. His work helps ensure that Logger athletes can compete safely and continue doing what they love," Rewerts said.
Student athletes who participate in overlapping sports seasons without adequate recovery time face a higher risk of overuse injuries. Structured off-season strength training, speed and agility work and overall conditioning in non-competitive environments can significantly reduce injury risk and improve performance.
“I get great satisfaction working with LMHS athletes, coaches, parents and staff,” Wardian shared. “Seeing an athlete return to their sport safely after an injury and knowing we helped guide that process is incredibly rewarding.”
Cabinet Peaks Medical Center is honored to support Libby’s student athletes through this valuable partnership. By investing in athletic training services, the organization continues its commitment to keeping local athletes safe, healthy and performing at their best.
