PONDERAY — The Lake Pend Oreille School District board officially declared a board vacancy for Zone 2 following the resignation of Jalon Peters on Tuesday.
Peters said in an e-mail that his family had sold their house and are set to move to Coeur d’Alene to be closer to his work. Board Chair Lonnie Williams and LPOSD Superintendent Dr. Becky Meyer took time before the vote to thank Peters for his time on the board.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to serve with you. I have no problems saying I didn't know if that was going to be the case when you first got on this board,” Williams said with a smile. "Your dedication to this community and what you have done has definitely been great for everybody involved. You will be missed.”
With the vacancy officially declared, the application for a new trustee has been posted to the district’s website. All applicants must reside in Zone 2, the area south of Sagle, west of Highway 92 and south of Highway 2.
Interviews for the opening will be held at the board’s April board meeting on April 14 at district headquarters. Whoever is selected to serve following the interviews will be on the board until Dec. 31, 2029, when Peters’ term expires.
The application closes on Monday, April 6 at 6 p.m. and should be turned to Board Clerk Kelly Fisher at [email protected].
