A 54-year-old Idaho man driving a 2022 Freightliner Ryder moving truck died Friday morning after a crash on Highway 37 near Libby Dam.

According to Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Andy Horton, the man was driving south when he failed to negotiate a left curve, collided with a K-rail barrier on the right hand side of the road. The truck, which had an Indiana license plate, then crossed both lanes and struck a cliff face.

The man was ejected from the truck and died at the scene. One eyewitness covered the man's body while others parked their vehicle above the crash scene to ensure southbound drivers knew about it.

Sgt. Horton said speed and not wearing a seat belt were factors in the crash and man's death.

First responders included Montana Highway Patrol, Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, Libby Volunteer Fire Department and the county coroner's office.

In another crash Friday morning, south of Libby, on U.S. 2 at mile marker 40, a vehicle lost control and left the roadway. Both the driver and passenger, who were wearing seat belts, were not injured.
