Day tabbed as new transportation director
Gary Day has been named as the new transportation director for Coeur d’Alene Public Schools.
Day, who previously served as the interim director, will focus on customer service, the transportation department’s culture and technical experience as a “hands on leader.”
“Gary has been part of our district on and off since 2010—from substitute teaching to being named the 2024 State Bus Driver of the Year,” said Deputy Superintendent of Operations Seth Deniston. “Between his "on-the-road" experience and his past leadership as a credit union president and bank manager, he has the unique balance of skills needed to lead us forward. “
His experience with Coeur d’Alene Public Schools is extensive. Day was a math teacher at Venture Academy for three and half years. He’s also served as a substitute teacher and been a sports announcer for Coeur d’Alene High Schools. All four of his children attended schools within the district.
“I was retired when I saw that we needed bus drivers and joined the team,” said Day. “When our previous director announced that she was retiring, I applied to be the Interim Director and then reapplied to become the Director.”
Day is excited about leading the transportation team, which transports thousands of students daily.
“The drivers, support staff and mechanics here in our Transportation Department are some of the most dedicated team of professionals I've had the privilege of working with,” said Day. “Partnering with the schools and families we serve to promote the education experience is an honor.”
