PREP SOFTBALL: Peterson pitches Lake City to win in opener

SPOKANE VALLEY — Junior Madeline Peterson allowed three hits and struck out seven in the first game to power the Lake City Timberwolves past the University Titans 6-2 in the season opener for both schools at University High on Thursday. 

Peterson also had a two-run single in the top of the third for Lake City. Senior Kyla Smith also had a two-run double in the third in the opener for Lake City, which led 6-0 in the top of the third inning. 

University won the second game 11-8. 

Senior Karsyn DeMent had three hits and two runs scored and Smith drove in two runs in the second game for Lake City (1-1), which travels to Central Valley in a doubleheader on Saturday in Spokane Valley.
