Sidney Leir

Sidney Leir, 89, of Dufur, Oregon and formerly of Libby, Montana, passed away Feb. 8, 2026.
Sidney was born Jan. 13, 1937, in McHenry, North Dakota and moved to Libby with his family in 1942.
Sidney graduated from Libby High School in 1955 and then attended Kinman Business University in Spokane, Washington, which taught bookkeeping and accounting. He used that training later for most of his lifetime employment.
In the summer of 1957, Sidney joined his cousins Gary and Kermit Leir on a trip to Seattle where all three found employment with Boeing. Following that, Sidney joined the trucking industry as an office manager until his retirement.
In Seattle, he met the love of his life, Patricia (Patti) Strumbeta who was born May 4, 1938 in Willapa, Washington. Sid and Patti were married on March 8, 1958 in Seattle. Only 11 days after Sid’s passing, Patti joined him in eternal rest on Feb. 19, 2026.
They would have celebrated their 68th anniversary on March 8, 2026.
Sidney and Patti are jointly survived by daughter Sandra Richmond, son Michael Leir, grandson Robert Bardon, granddaughter Katie Mae Hettig-Leir and great-granddaughter Kathlyn Bardon. Sidney is solely survived by a sister Germaine Blanchard.
Sidney was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Alice Leir, brother Richard Leir, twin sisters Judith Spencer and Jane Dauphine. Both Sidney and Patti were preceded in death by their granddaughter Candace Bardon in 1986.
A memorial service is tentatively scheduled for late May or in June.
