In a very memorable season, the Troy Trojans boys basketball team had more good memories at the Western B Divisional tournament at Salish Kootenai College in Pablo.
The Trojans recovered from a 86-65 loss to Arlee on March 5 to win three straight games and challenge for one of two berths to the Class B state playoffs.
After dumping Plains, 60-48, March 6, the Trojans took on Eureka at the early start of 9 a.m.
The Trojans answered the bell as Carson Orr and Thomas Guinard lifted them over Eureka, 62-48.
Orr scored 24 points and Guinard 20 for the Trojans. Orr hit a pair of 3-pointers and knocked down 7 of 10 fourth-quarter free throws as Troy avenged two regular-season losses to the Lions. Guinard had three baskets in the final quarter.
Nolan Morris added nine points, Mason Crowe had five and Emerson Downey scored four.
Troy then beat Deer Lodge 47-28 in the third-place game. While they fell to Missoula Loyola in Monday’s challenge game, 63-36, the Trojans ended their season over .500 at 13-9.
It was the second straight year the Trojans were 13-9, led by seniors Carson Orr, Trevor Guinard, Gunnar Fisher, Emerson Downey, Nolan Morris and Dmitrii Walenter. Both teams reached the Western B Divisional Tournament, the first since 2018.
The 13-9 marks were their best since 2011-12 when the Trojans finished 16-6 and won the 7B title. Current head coach Cody Orr and his twin brother, Cory, led that team.
