CHLOE COCHRAN | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 2 months, 3 weeks AGO
Filing for the May 19 primary election officially closed Friday at 5 p.m., where nine candidates were approved to run for six open county office positions.
Despite a third of the candidates running unopposed, the elections will bring with it a little competition between incumbents and new-time candidates.
Now that the deadline has passed, here’s a look at who’s seeking what position:
County Commissioner District 1: With incumbent Brian Domke opting not to run, the race features a pair of political newcomers. Fred Arn of Sagle is running as an independent and Steve Smith of Sandpoint is running on the Republican ticket.
County Commissioner District 2: Incumbent Asia Williams of Blanchard will be running against first-time candidate Jeff Roberts of Priest River in the Republican primary.
County Clerk: Republicans JoAnne Guzzi of Sandpoint, Roger N. Rudd of Spirit Lake and Spencer Hutching of Sagle are running for county clerk, on the Republican ticket. Incumbent Michael Rosedale has opted not to seek reelection.
County Treasurer: Incumbent Clorrisa Koster of Sandpoint is running unopposed as she seeks reelection to the treasurer’s office. She is running on the Republican ballot.
County Assessor: Chief Deputy Assessor Corey Gabel of Sandpoint is seeking election as county assessor on the Republican ticket and is running unopposed.
County Coroner: Incumbent Robert Beers of Sandpoint is running unopposed for county coroner and is seeking the Republican nomination.
