Whitefish City Council on Monday will consider awarding a contract related to its south water tank project.

It’s a short agenda with only one vote scheduled, and Council will meet early at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 418 E. Second St.

Whitefish is constructing a water storage tank on the south side of town to meet the required fire flow demands from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality. It’s a project the city has been working on for nearly a decade.

Earlier this month, Council approved a contract for the construction of an elevated tank. Now, Council will consider awarding a construction contract to Neuman Construction Co. for $2.3 million.

The contract is for the construction of an 18-inch water transmission line from the site of the future water tank to U.S. 93. The elevated tank is to be constructed at the city shop on West 18th Street.

The bid for the second phase of the project came below the engineer’s estimate of $2.6 million.

Imagine a world without birds. No flittering of tiny chickadees on branches. No mocking call from a black raven overhead. No red-tailed hawks sitting in wait on a fence post.
