BOISE — Sandpoint High sophomore Lou Foust, the only swimmer from the Sandpoint Sharks swim club to qualify for 2026 Northwest Spring Speedo Sectionals — regarded by many as the highest-level competition one can qualify for during short course season — represented his team well from March 12 to 15 at the Idaho Central Aquatic Center.

Foust rose to the occasion, racing with determination and focus as he delivered a handful of outstanding performances. Competing against some of the best in the region, the standout swimmer was 133rd in the 100 free (51.86), tied for 59th in the 100 back (58.82), 103rd in the 200 free (1:54.46), 39th in the 200 back (2:05.72), 45th in the 500 free (5:08.31) and 133rd in the 50 free (24.15). His 50 free and 100 free were both all-time personal bests.

"Simply qualifying for this championship-level competition is a major accomplishment, and competing against the region’s top swimmers makes the achievement even more impressive," Sandpoint Sharks head swim coach Emily Renzini said. "Attending a meet like this can be challenging, especially as the only representative from your team... Lou recording personal best times is a testament to the dedication, perseverance, and countless hours of training he has put in throughout the season. His hard work paid off in a big way, showing that commitment and determination truly make a difference."

Coach Renzini said competing at this level isn't easy and takes a lot of courage.

“I am incredibly proud of Lou," coach Renzini added. "He gave it everything he had and proved that all the work he’s put into the pool is paying off.”
