CDA police, fire chiefs slated to be appointed Tuesday

Coeur d'Alene Mayor Dan Gookin is expected to appoint the city's new police and fire chiefs at tonight's City Council meeting.

Following an evaluation and interview process to replace Police Chief Lee White, who retired Jan. 14, the list was narrowed to four finalists March 12: Jake Fisher, chief of the El Monte Police Department; Craig Meidl, former chief of the Spokane Police Department; Deputy Chief Greg Yeager with the Fort Collins Police Services, and interim Chief Dave Hagar with the Coeur d’ Alene Police Department.  

Following interviews March 5, Jake Bieker, current fire captain at the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department; Jon Fugitt, the deputy chief-administrator/fire marshal of the Fullerton Fire Department in Fullerton, Calif.; and Kristan Maurer, the first woman fire chief for Clark County Fire District 6 in Washington state, were the three finalists to replace Coeur d’Alene Fire Chief Tom Greif, who is retiring April 16 after nearly 30 years of service.

Both jobs were advertised at an annual pay range of $127,732 to $179,753.

The City Council meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. in the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Community Room.
