Expansion appeared to be the future of Whitefish, as evidenced by the number of requests for water hookup and annexation heard at the City Council meeting. Water hook-up for a subdivision east of town bordering on the Crosswinds subdivision was requested by developers Gene Post and Shirley Granmo. Post explained how these ten one-acre lots had been accepted by the county in 1972 as a single-family residential area. They sought to hook water onto the Cross Winds water line. On the other side of town, contractor Dick MacDonald requested permission to hook on to the north end of the Orchard View subdivision water line west of town.

Two full-time employee positions were cut by the Whitefish City Council in a move designed to help combat the city's first recorded deficit. Another position was trimmed to half-time. The full council voted unanimously to combine the duties of animal control officer and parking enforcement officer. Both positions were full-time and the move will result in one less employee. The position of a worker in the street department who is retiring will not be filled. The clerk of the city court's full-time job was also reduced to half-time.

One of the historic Christmas trees at Whitefish Lake Golf Club was set to come down along with a handful of other mature spruces that lined the entry. A towering spruce in the roundabout that dons multicolored Christmas lights each winter was diseased and dying, said Terry Nelson, WLGC board member. Crews planned to remove the tree along with others between the entry and the Whitefish Cemetery.
