BOZEMAN — Montana State qualified for the women’s basketball post-season for back-to-back seasons for the second time in history, and the Bobcats learned on Wednesday that they will host a second-round game in the Women’s NIT.

The Bobcats have a bye in the first-round of the 48-team tournament and await the winner of Thursday’s game between host San Francisco and Utah Valley State. That game tips at 7 p.m.

The winner heads to Breeden Field House, but the date and tip time won’t be announced until Friday morning. The Bobcats have requested a 2 p.m. tip-off on Sunday; the game could be Monday or Tuesday.

Montana State, which went 25-7 and lost to Idaho in the Big Sky Conference championship, was selected for the 28th WNIT on Sunday by event organizer Triple Crown Sports.

“I’m very proud of this team and we’re excited to continue playing,” Montana State head coach Tricia Binford said.  “The resume this team put together is certainly deserving of post-season basketball. We finished 69th in the NET Ranking, had a Quad One win, and won 25 basketball games.”

The Cats played in the NCAA Tournament last season. In 2016-17, they lost at Utah in the WNIT one year before winning the Big Sky Tournament and making the NCAAs.

Northern Colorado (22-10) also made the WNIT out of the Big Sky. The bears play at Air Force Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
