CLARKSTON, Wash. — Junior Nate Beardsall hit a bases-clearing double with two outs in the top of the fifth inning as the visiting Timberlake Tigers scored six runs in the frame en route to a 7-3 victory over the Clarkston Bantams in the nonleague opener for both at Clarkston High on Tuesday.

“We were a little asleep at the wheel for the first few innings, but both teams were,” Timberlake coach Bryce Johnson said. “We started to have some good at-bats in the fourth inning and picked up where we left off in the fifth. We started to get some clutch hitting in the fifth.”

Junior Ryker Brennan and sophomore Dane Perkl also had RBIs in the fifth for Timberlake, which visits Vallivue High of Caldwell in the Bucks Bags Tournament on Thursday.

“It was good for the guys to see someone different and adjust,” Johnson said. “There were some nerves and it took us a while to get going. But I was happy to keep them at bay until we could get going offensively.”
