Full caption: Sandpoint's Jetta Thaete recently committed to continue her track & field career at the University of Idaho in Moscow. A senior thrower, Thaete became the first official 5A state champion in the javelin throw in 2025 with her personal best mark of 138 feet, 10 inches, which was nine feet ahead of the next best competitor in the state. During her junior season, she was victorious in the javelin throw in all 10 of the meets she competed in. A five-time state qualifier and also a member of the Ironwood Track Club in Rathdrum, Thaete also participated in the shot put and the discus throw at last year's state championship and placed 10th in both events. At the 2024 state championship meet, she added a ninth-place finish in the discus throw to her resume and also finished 12th in the shot put in 2023. She currently holds personal bests of 38 feet, 5 inches in the shot put and 113 feet, 11 inches in the discus. "She's worked incredibly hard to be able to do this," Sandpoint High assistant track & field/throws coach Brian Smith said. "She's put a lot of time in, not just at practice, but all year long. It's amazing to see her hard work pay off and I'm looking forward to seeing her compete in college."
