The Whitefish Christian Academy seventh/eighth grade girls basketball team recently won the Kalispell Middle School basketball tournament. It was a highlight of the season as the team went 17-2, with a schedule featuring the biggest middle schools in Northwest Montana.

"This team had unique talent, selflessness and friendship,” said Coach Burton Gildersleeve. “The results of that rare combination were historic for our little school.”

The Lady Lions had a roster of two eighth graders, five seventh graders and one sixth grader, from grades that have class sizes of about 14. Comparatively, Whitefish Middle School has about 100 students per class, and Kalispell Middle School has about 300.

Gildersleeve said defeating Evergreen, Bigfork and Kalispell was “a feat that wasn’t easy and won’t be easily repeated.”
