Flathead National Forest announces Lindbergh Lake Campground improvement project

The Flathead National Forest announced this week the Lindbergh Lake Campground Improvement Project, located on the National Forest approximately nine miles south of Condon. The project proposes replacing the existing boat ramp, improving day-use parking and creating additional trailer parking. The project would also install a second vault toilet to service the upper campground loop, construct a trail between the upper and lower loops, reducing social trails along the lakeshore, and install amenities.  
“The Flathead National Forest is proposing these improvements to the Lindbergh Lake Campground to provide quality recreation experiences while protecting resources” said Swan Lake District Ranger Sarah Canepa. “This project is not expanding the capacity of the campground or day use site but seeks to accommodate the existing use that is occurring at Lindbergh Lake.”
The day-use recreation site and lower campground loop date back to 1968, with the upper campground loop added in 2003. The narrow campsites and access road make navigation challenging for larger vehicles. The campground improvement proposal would meet design standards and improve accessibility without increasing the overnight capacity of the recreation site.
Work on the project would begin as soon as this summer and would require two summer seasons for completion. There is potential for brief access disruptions to the campground and boat launch with the implementation of this project. This proposal has received funding through the Great American Outdoors Act.
