Movie Night at the Museum presents “Matilda,” the family-friendly hit adapted from Roald Dahl’s 1988 novel of the same name.

“Matilda” is a heartwarming story of a child who overcomes a family that does not understand her through reading —– and a little magic. Directed and narrated by Danny DeVito, the film stars Mara Wilson as Matilda Wormwood. The Wormwood family has never understood their clever youngest child, who prefers books to television. When Harry Wormwood (DeVito) sells a used car to Miss Trunchbull (Pam Ferris), the tyrannical principal of Crunchem Hall Elementary School, Matilda is taken on as a student.

Matilda quickly learns that the school has rather unorthodox practices for keeping the students in line but thrives academically despite further stress at home as the FBI starts looking into her parents’ car-selling shenanigans. With new friends and an aptly named teacher, Miss Honey (Embeth Davidtz), Matilda practices her strange, telekinetic powers to keep everyone safe.

The movie will be shown March 24 at the Northwest Montana History Museum, 124 Second Ave. E., Kalispell. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the movie starts at 7 p.m. in the Swanberg Classroom with opening remarks by host Jacob Thomas. Admission and popcorn are free. Soda, water, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Seating is provided, but visitors are welcome to bring their own.
