Game 1: Bonners Ferry 17, Kellogg 7
The beginning of baseball season brought rain, with a doubleheader between the Bonners Ferry Badgers and Orofino Maniacs scrapped due to bad weather.
That meant the Badgers started their season at home against the Kellogg Wildcats, who may wish that the rain and snow would have cancelled this series as well because it was all Bonners Ferry in a day doubleheader.
By the end of the two games, the combined scores were 36-7 in favor of the Badgers, who never trailed.
The opening game to Bonners Ferry’s season was initially a contested contest, as the Badgers flew out to an 8-0 lead at the end of the first inning. However, the Wildcats fought back admirably. The next two innings saw Kellogg score seven runs, to go into the bottom of the third down 8-7 after a scoreless bottom of the second inning from the Badgers, their only zero in the doubleheader.
From then on, the home team took control and scored nine runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Bonners Ferry won in five innings by a margin of 10 runs.
Bonners Ferry allowed just five hits in the series, all of which came in the first game.
Bonners Ferry 8 0 3 5 1 — 17
Kellogg 0 3 4 0 0 — 7
Game 2: Bonners Ferry 19, Kellogg 0
The second game between the two teams was a Bonners Ferry masterclass that would last just three and a half innings. For the second game in a row, the Badgers jumped out to an 8-0 lead at the end of the first. This time, there would be no Kellogg comeback. Two more runs in the second inning and nine in the third inning from Bonners Ferry ended the game prematurely.
The Badgers scored 19 runs but totaled just five hits, benefitting from seven Wildcat errors. Bonners Ferry no-hit Kellogg, allowing just two walks.
Bonners Ferry next plays at home against Grangeville on March 20 at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Last season, Grangeville was 16-12, with a 10-3 record in conference play.
Bonners Ferry 8 2 9 — 19
Kellogg 0 0 0 0 — 0
