Kalispell Public Schools announced Wednesday that Ryan Thompson, a teacher at Glacier High School, has been hired to guide the Wolfpack girls soccer program.

Thompson, a social studies teacher, spent last season as an assistant to Doug Mello with the program. Mello stepped down in January after three seasons to coach the Phillipines national team.

“Glacier High is thrilled that Ryan is going to be the next leader of our girls soccer program,” Glacier activities director Abby Snipes said in a KPS statement. “Ryan has an incredible coaching resume, a heart for students and a competitive drive that will continue to lead this great program in the right direction.”

Thompson’s resume includes four years as an assistant at his alma mater, NCAA Division III at Bethel (Minn.); and time as head boys coach at PACT Charter School in Ramsey, Minn. He holds a U.S. Soccer National E-License.

Mello compiled a 26-17-4 record at Glacier, starting with a young team in 2023; that includes a 2-3-0 record in the AA playoffs. The Pack girls won the 2020 State AA championship.

“I’m incredibly great to Glacier High School for the opportunity to lead this outstanding girls soccer program,” Thompson said. “I’m excited to build on its tradition and continue our commitment to developing student-athletes who excel on and off the field.”
