BONNERS FERRY — A man charged with seven felony counts of rape and aggravated assault is scheduled to stand trial March 23 in Bonners Ferry.

Michael Allen Lange, 52, will be tried on three counts of rape and four counts of aggravated assault stemming from alleged incidents involving two women between 2021 and 2025.

The bench trial will be administered by First District Judge Susie Jensen and is set for two days.

A bench trial is where the acting judge evaluates evidence to make the final decision of a trial, as opposed to a 12-citizen jury. This trial process is generally quicker than a jury trial, as there is no jury selection or instruction.

Lange currently resides at the Boundary County jail on a $200,000 bond since his Sept. 24 arrest.

According to court documents, it is alleged throughout November 2021 to May 2025, Lange threatened two women by holding a gun to their head and threatening to shoot them on multiple occurrences. The documents also allege that Lange raped the pair during this time in separate incidents.

Initial charges were filed on Sep. 18, 2025, for the alleged abuse. A no-contact order was also filed against Lange by both women.

If convicted, Lange faces up to five years in prison on each of the aggravated assault charges and up to life in prison on each of the rape charges.

Anyone who suspects sexual abuse should contact the Bonner County Sexual Abuse Crisis Line at 208-265-3586. An alternate helpline is available at 208-263-6714.
