Two primary races to be contested in county election

BONNERS FERRY — The slate of candidates for the upcoming May 19 primary has been set. With filing to run officially closed Friday, March 13, at 5 p.m., nine candidates put their name on the ballot to run for one of the six open county office positions. There are two contested primaries: three individuals are running for county clerk, and two are running for county commissioner for District 2. 

Each unopposed race on the ballot will be the second term for each candidate if elected. 

All nine candidates are registered with the Republican party. 

This is a list of every person who has been approved to run for county office:  

County Commissioner District 1: Incumbent Lester Pinkerton of Bonners Ferry announced his bid for re-election on Jan. 24. He is running unopposed for what will be his second term as commissioner if elected. 

County Commissioner District 2: Incumbent Tim Bertling of Moyie Springs, who has had two terms as commissioner, will be running against first-time candidate Debra Henderson of Bonners Ferry in the Republican primary.   

County Clerk: Follow current County Clerk Glenda Poston’s decision not to run for re-election, three candidates will be on the May ballot. Pam Barton of Naples, Kimberly Kichenmaster of Bonners Ferry and Stacie Watts of Paradise Valley will be running against each other. 

County Treasurer: Incumbent Jennifer Economu will run unopposed as county assessor. It will be her second term. 

County Assessor: Olivia Drake of Naples will run an uncontested primary as county assessor. If elected, it would be the second term for the incumbent. 

County Coroner: Incumbent Chad Workman of Bonners Ferry is seeking re-election as county coroner for his second term. He is running unopposed

To register to vote in Boundary County, community members must register to vote with the Boundary County elections department. Registration cards can be filled out in person at the county’s administration building, online at voteidaho.gov/voter-registration or mailed. Idaho Code prohibits completed registration cards from being emailed or faxed due to the need for an original signature.
