PREP TENNIS: Sandpoint falls to Lewiston

SANDPOINT — Junior Pepper Rickert rolled to her second flawless 6-0, 6-0 victory of the season in girls singles, Lily Evans and Morgan Dail teamed up for the first time and posted a two-set win in girls doubles, and the Bulldogs fell to the Bengals in a 5A Inland Empire League match held Tuesday afternoon at the James E. Russell Sports Center.
Competing in boys singles, Brayden Western played his best match of the year, winning 8-4 in the No.3 spot. In No. 2 mixed doubles, Claire Ballard, in her first ever varsity match, played calm and focused alongside Porter Jensn, who used his height and length to dominate the net en route to an 8-3 victory.
"Claire consistently ran down every ball at the baseline and ripped shots to the open court — really fun to watch," Sandpoint High head coach Kent Anderson said.
Coach Anderson said despite a tough defeat, there were some bright spots to go along with the day's long, hard-fought matches. The Bulldogs will look to get back into the win column when they host Lakeland for an important 5A IEL match on Wednesday.
