PREP ROUNDUP: Trojan baseball team walks way to first victory

BOISE — The Post Falls Trojans took advantage of 15 walks to beat the Douglas Raiders of Troutdale, Ore., 16-1 in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic at Borah High on Friday. 

“We told them to be aggressive and not let hittable pitches go by,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “The guys had a good approach at the plate today.” 

Bryce Berger hit a two-run single in the second inning, finishing with three RBIs for Post Falls (1-3). 

Senior Caden Reese hit a two-run single in the third inning and Karl Berend allowed two hits in four innings for the Trojans. 

“It’s starting to come together a little bit for us,” Reese said. “We’ll see if we can get some momentum going into tomorrow.” 

Post Falls concludes the tournament against Skyline of Idaho Falls at Ridgevue High in Nampa.

Lake City drops two 

in Meridian tourney


MERIDIAN — Cooper Chaffin hit a two-run double in the bottom of the sixth inning for the Timberwolves, who fell Centennial of Boise 7-2 in the Rocky Mountain tournament at Rocky Mountain High. 

Later, the Timberwolves were limited to two hits in a 17-1 loss to Rocky Mountain. 

Lake City (1-2) faces Mountain View and Eagle today at Mountain View High in Meridian to conclude the tournament.

CALDWELL — The 4A Tigers allowed eight runs in the top of the first inning against 5A Minico of Rupert in a 16-2 loss, then fell to 5A Skyline of Idaho Falls 15-5 in the second day of the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic at Vallivue High. 

Ryker Brennan and Eric Wylie scored runs in the opener for Timberlake. 

Against Skyline, sophomore Dane Perkl had two RBIs for the Tigers. 

Timberlake (1-3) concludes the tournament today against Parma at Vallivue High.

RICHLAND, Wash. — Senior Abbey Linder went 4 for 4 with a triple and two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored as the Vikings opened their season with a shutout of the Bulldogs on the first day of the Richland Mixer at Columbia Playfield. 

Senior Ellie Henderson went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Vikings, including a two-run double in the fifth. 

Junior Jenna Davenport struck out five and allowed one hit in three innings for Coeur d’Alene, and freshman Savannah Stevens fanned three in two innings. Stevens also went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. 

Hermiston is 1-1. 

Today, Coeur d’Alene is scheduled to play North Creek of Bothell, Wash., at 10 a.m., and Lake Washington of Kirkland at noon.

RICHLAND, Wash. — Sophomore Rylan Morrison drove in five runs as the Trojans beat the Blue Devils in the season opener for both on the first day of the Richland Mixer at Columbia Playfield. 

Morrison doubled in two runs in the fourth inning and singled in two runs in the fifth for Post Falls.  

Sophomore Paityn Froman went 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Trojans, who led 11-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth. 

Walla Walla scored five times and pulled within a run and had the tying run on second with nobody out in the seventh before Lexie McCarroll, who had re-entered the game at pitcher, retired the next three batters to end the game. 

Today, Post Falls is scheduled to play Kennewick at 10 a.m. and West Valley of Yakima at noon.

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Mac Wellsandt had wins in the 100- and 200-meter dash to help lead the Coeur d'Alene boys to the team title at the four-team Lakeland meet on Thursday at Lakeland High. 

Coeur d’Alene won the boys team title with 106.5 points, followed by Lakeland with 84.5. 

Lakeland won the girls team title with 101 points.
