SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW: Sandpoint boys lacrosse returns solid core of dedicated players
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 3 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 21, 2026 1:00 AM

OUTLOOK: It was a mixed bad for the Bulldogs in 2025. As one of the youngest teams in the Idaho High School Lacrosse League's North Region, they took care of business when needed, but struggled against veteran-heavy league newcomers such as Spokane Valley and Mt. Spokane. The league is larger and stronger than ever before, but Sandpoint, with five returning all-conference selections, has the talent to get back to the state playoffs once again.
Kohta Fisher is a returning captain and all-conference pick and can light up the scoreboard in a matter of minutes. The standout senior attacker had 38 goals and 39 groundballs a year ago and recently passed 50 career goals in the Bulldogs' season opener against Mt. Spokane. Alongside Fisher will be Oliver Porietis and Augustine Duvall. Third-year head coach Ty Wilson says the two have the work ethic needed to get the job done on the offensive end. Caiden Anthony also scored in Sandpoint's season opener.
At midfield, Liam Bowen, another all-conference selection in 2025, will see the majority of the time in faceoff circle after he recovers from an offseason injury. Bowen, just a sophomore, impressed onlookers with 10 assists, 115 groundballs and a 50.5% (103-for-204) draw control win rate during his freshman campaign. Also in the midfield is an experienced long stick midfielder in Tanyon Sprinkle. A 2025 all-conference selection, the senior just has a knack for putting the ball in his stick's pocket. He racked up four goals, seven assists and 64 groundballs a season ago. Look out for junior Keagan Cole as well. The 2025 all-conference honoree also plays at attack and tallied 10 goals and nine assists in his first year of varsity action last year. Trenton Cross, Rajah Brown, Justice Manske, Lucas Garrison and Jackson Lankamer have all seen considerable time early on.
On defense, the Bulldogs graduated a solid few, but 2025 all-conference pick Jakeb Addison is back at it. He posted career-high 48 groundballs a year ago and helped limited opponents to 8.1 goals per game, something Sandpoint will look to improve on for the season ahead. Look for Dylan Peck and Caiden Addington on the defensive side of the ball as well.
In goal, Jaxson McElroy and Ryan Gaffney have looked good earlier on. Coach Ty Wilson said he is confident in both of their abilities and trust's either one of them in between the sticks. Gaffney got the nod in the season opener and made 14 saves against a high-level Mt. Spokane squad.
With the Northwest Avalanche of Kalispell joining the league and Mead consolidating it's 13 players with Mt. Spokane, the road to state hasn't gotten any easier, but it's certainly a possibility for this dedicated group that Wilson has coached up over the past few years.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "We're a little shorter on numbers than we'd like to see to justify a developing team. We have some games coming up that we feel confident in, so that I can rotate in players. We'll get some younger guys some looks when we go over to Missoula for some cross-divisional games as well." — Coach Ty Wilson on the team's 19-player roster
"I am selfishly fortunate that we're getting to a group of boys that all they want to do is be lacrosse players, especially our sophomore and junior classes. Chad Cole and Christian Crossingham have had a huge hand in making offseason lacrosse very prominent." — Coach Ty Wilson on the Bulldogs' offseason commitments
"The seniors this year are the glue of the team. The very first year I started coaching, I was coaching that group at the junior varsity level. All of the seniors this year will have a heavy impact on our success." — Coach Ty Wilson on his senior group
"He makes it a point to be one of the hardest workers, and his sportsmanship and mannerisms are years beyond his age. It is very impressive to watch. I think he is a kid that has a positive impact on the program, his teammates, and coaches." — Coach Ty Wilson on impact newcomer Augustine Duvall
