SPRING SPORTS PREVIEW: Sandpoint girls lacrosse hoping to clinch WSGL playoff berth
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 3 weeks AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 21, 2026 1:00 AM

OUTLOOK: This year is the year for Sandpoint High girls lacrosse. With a handful of key returners and a freshman class that will be contributing immediately, the Lady Bulldogs believe they match up well with the rest of the WSGL's Eastern Division. Coming off a 14-14 tie against rival Spokane Stealth at the end of last season, Sandpoint is already off to a stellar start with a 25-1 victory over Kamiakin and a 7-5 defeat of strong Richland squad.
Captain Tess Sloan, an NCAA Division II Thomas More University commit, will be one of the team's go-to scoring threats. It will be much of the same for Molly Sloan, who scored nine goals between the first two contests and a sister to Tess. Kat Argabrite is a returning sophomore and a Daily Bee Athlete of the Week a season ago that can score in a hurry. Clara Sherman and Cecilia Dignan, an Ave Maria University (NAIA) commit for soccer and an anchor on the defensive side of the field, both scored in both games of the season thus far as well.
Senior Grace Gavin brings years of experience to a veteran back line and is ready to get back to business. Both Gavin and Dignan have already caused five turnovers each across the first two contests. Gavin, as well as Molly Sloan, have also led the way in the faceoff circle with seven draw controls apiece. Medea Moon is back for her second season in goal and has improved her skills ten-fold since her debut season a year ago.
Summer Loutzenhiser is another returning senior, as is Reina Montecchi, who is admitted to the United States Naval Academy. Josie Cox, Abigail Baker, Leina Luttmann, Emma Dignan, Avi Vachon and Leah Clark have all seen significant time and have scored at least once each to start the season. Senior Summer Loutzenhiser has also made her mark on the stat sheet with four groundballs in the season opener for the Lady Bulldogs, which are looking forward to a highly-anticipated matchup with the Stealth on Tuesday.
COACH'S COMMENTS: "This is an exciting year for us. We're a pretty experienced team. I expect them to be confident when they go out on the field to play because they have the stick skills and a high lacrosse-IQ." — Coach Nancy Dooley on her 19-player roster
"We're looking to use our freshman quite a bit. They all come into the season with experience and are good athletes." — Coach Nancy Dooley on freshmen Mazie Miles, Toni Finch and Leina Luttmann
"Our attack players were taking their time, moving the goalie, and taking smart shots. That's the first thing I noticed the team has improved on since last year. I was also impressed with the draw control from our team in both games. " — Coach Nancy Dooley after the team's season-opening wins over Kamiakin and Richland
"Any of our defenders can play midfield. We don't have a huge line at midfield, so it gives us the ability to rotate players. We have a lot of depth and players who can play multiple positions." — Coach Nancy Dooley on her team's versatility
"She has such a smart defensive IQ. She is amazing about being in the right place at the right time to help with turnovers and loose balls." — Coach Nancy Dooley on veteran defender Cecilia Dignan leading the charge
