NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals sweep past Utah State-Eastern

HELPER, Utah — Maycee Madsen, a freshman from Riverton, Utah, hit a bases-clearing triple to give North Idaho College the lead for good in a 5-3 win over Utah State-Eastern in the first game of a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader at Heritage Field on Saturday.  

Freshman Chloe Hearrell had a two-run double in the fifth for NIC in the opener. 

In the nightcap, NIC took a 7-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning, then held on late to beat the Eagles 7-6 to get the sweep. 

Maya Parry, a freshman from Lindon, Utah, had two hits and three runs scored in the second game for NIC (12-17, 5-3 SWAC), which hosts Salt Lake next Friday and Saturday at the Marimn Health Coeur Center in Worley.

Utah State-Eastern is 8-12, 1-7.
