PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene boys, Lakeland girls win at Lewiston invite

LEWISTON — Senior Camden Johnson won in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles to power the Coeur d’Alene boys to the team title at the Lewiston Invitational at Lewiston High. 

Senior Mitchell Rietze (800), sophomore Wyatt Morgenstern (1,600) and junior Gabe Heule (3,200) also had wins for Coeur d’Alene, which finished with 121 points. 

“We had a lot of athletes scoring points,” Coeur d’Alene coach Shawn Amos said. “Our depth really helps and we are still missing a couple of runners that we should have back soon. It has been a good start to the season.” 

Lakeland had wins in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays to capture the girls team title with 85 points. 

Coeur d’Alene Charter senior Annabelle Carr won the 800 and 1,600 and sophomore Emmaline Carr won the 100 and 200 for the Panthers, who were fourth with 58 points.

• BASEBALL

Foulk hits walk-off, then homers

for Vikings in Kickoff Classic

CAMAS, Wash. — Senior Blake Foulk hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to send the Vikings past the Eagles of Graham, Wash., in the Clark County Kickoff Classic at Camas High. 

The game was suspended due to darkness with the game tied 10-10 in the top of the ninth inning on Friday. When play resumed on Saturday, Graham-Kapowsin scored two runs to take a 12-10 lead. Coeur d’Alene cut the deficit to 12-11 on an RBI single by Jackson Hackett in the bottom of the ninth. 

Foulk hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning for Coeur d’Alene, which fell to Glacier Peak of Snohomish, Wash., 12-11 in its second game of the tournament. 

Tommy Pickens had two hits and three RBIs against Glacier Peak for Coeur d’Alene (1-1), which travels to Moscow for a single game on Tuesday.

MERIDIAN — The Timberwolves fell to 1-4 on the season following losses to the Mavericks of Meridian and Mustangs in the Rocky Mountain Tournament at Mountain View High. 

Against Mountain View, Malcolm MacNiven drove in two runs for the Timberwolves. 

The Timberwolves were limited to six hits against the Mustangs. 

Lake City travels to Lewiston for a doubleheader on Tuesday.

NAMPA — The Trojans cut the deficit to 2-1 on a bases loaded walk with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but were unable to push across the tying run in a loss to the Grizzlies of Idaho Falls in the Buck’s Bags Spring Classic at Ridgevue High. 

“We had a lot of missed opportunities,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “We’d hit the ball hard, but right at them and had some chances, but didn’t put the ball in play.” 

Post Falls (1-4) returns to action next Saturday at Lewiston for a doubleheader at Church Field. 

“We just couldn’t get on the same page to score some runs,” Reese said. “Our pitching was much better today and our guys threw really well.”
