PREP ROUNDUP: Reese Dutton, Helmholz help Lakeland sweep Sandpoint

• SOFTBALL

RATHDRUM — Sophomore Reese Dutton struck out six and allowed two hits in the opener, and junior Abby Helmholz struck out 10 in the second game as the Lakeland Hawks swept the Sandpoint Bulldogs 14-1 and 8-3 in 5A Inland Empire League play Monday at Lakeland High. 

Junior Jaiden Corbey hit a two-run double in a five-run third inning for Lakeland (4-3, 2-0 5A IEL). Raygen Dutton had a two-run single in a seven-run second inning. Reese Dutton had a two-run single in the third, and finished with three RBIs.  

Reese Vanek hit a two-run double in the second for the Hawks. 

Teagan Newsom homered in the fourth inning for Sandpoint’s lone run. 

In the second game, Raygen Dutton hit a two-run homer as Lakeland scored five times in the fourth inning to break a 2-all tie. Delilah Zimmerman also homered in the fifth. 

Arah Stevens hit a two-run homer in the first to give Sandpoint (1-3, 1-3) a 2-0 lead. 

Ada Blakemore finished 4 for 7 on the day for Lakeland, with three RBIs and two runs scored. 

Lakeland returns to action April 4 with a doubleheader at Frenchtown (Mont.)

SANDPOINT — Griffin Tamagni had four of the Hawks’ nine hits on the day in a 5A Inland Empire League doubleheader sweep by the Bulldogs at War Memorial Field. 

Tamagni went 3 for 3 with two runs scored in the opener for Lakeland (0-4, 0-2 5A IEL). 

Sandpoint is 4-0, 4-0. 

Lakeland returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls, Wash.

SPIRIT LAKE — Eric Wylie struck out three and allowed one hit in three innings, and went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and four runs scored as the host Tigers beat the Wildcats at John Shaffer Field.

Gage Haines drove in four runs, two on a first-inning double, for Timberlake (3-3). Ryker Brennan drove in three runs, two on a second-inning double. Wylie had a two-run single in the third. Tanner Van Tassel was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. 

Henry Larson had both hits for Kellogg. 

Timberlake is scheduled to play host to Riverside today. 

Kellogg travels to Orofino on Thursday.

win at Lapwai invite

CLARKSTON — Priest River’s boys and St. Maries’ girls claimed team titles at the Lapwai Invitational at the Red Wolf Golf Club. 

Kellogg’s boys were third, just two strokes back of the Spartans. 

Isabella Wise shot 98 to lead St. Maries’ girls to the team title.
