The Troy softball team enters the spring season focused on growth and competitiveness in a tough Western B/C conference.

Head coach Keith Haggerty kept expectations simple but meaningful heading into the year.

“To be competitive and continue to develop after every game,” he said.

The Lady Trojans will feature a roster that spans multiple grade levels, highlighting both depth and future potential. Troy returns two seniors, four juniors, three sophomores, five freshmen, and three eighth graders, giving the team a mix of veteran presence and developing athletes.

Leading the way will be a core group of upperclassmen, anchored by two seniors expected to set the tone.

“Our two seniors Ellie Borgmann centerfield and Halle Wallace pitching should be up front but will be helped by our middle infielders Addy Fisher and Kirsti Jellesed,” Haggerty said. “Ellah Wallace will add to the mix behind the plate.”

While the team is still taking shape early in the season, Haggerty believes past experience could be a key factor.

“It's difficult at this time to pin down our strengths, except for maybe some postseason experience that should help drive this team to be better than last season,” he said.

That experience will be tested in a competitive league, where improvement across the board is expected.

“Watching the young talent on all the teams last year get better and knowing most of the key players will still be there in our Western conference this season has our competition looking better overall,” Haggerty said.

Troy’s development hasn’t been limited to in-season work, as several players dedicated themselves to improving during the offseason.

“I've had some athletes put in some offseason work that helps improve their individual skills and it makes our team better,” Haggerty said. “Addelyn Cox, Kiera Burton have put in extra effort as well as others this winter. It makes it fun for a coach when players come to accomplish something instead of just going through the motions.”

With a strong team culture and support system behind them, the Lady Trojans are aiming to turn that effort into results on the field.

“We have a great group this season that has all the potential to surprise others during the big games and be very competitive,” Haggerty said. “We also have the best parental support that gives us an edge at every competition.”

As the season gets underway, one thing is clear in Troy: “It's always a good time to be a part of the Lady Trojans Fastpitch Team!”
