Racing with rabbits: Plains to host fundraising runs
JOHN HAMILTON | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 month, 3 weeks AGO
It’s racing with rabbits, and it could help you run your best time.
With several of their high school runners serving as rabbits for the race, the Plains track and field team has announced the Plains Easter Rabbit Race in Plains April 4 as a fundraiser for the PHS track and field and cross country programs.
Plains coach Jesse Jermyn, who guides the Plains cross country and track and field programs, said team athletes will be helping coordinate, set up and administer the race and, during the event some will be selected to run a pre-desginated time, to serve as race ‘rabbits’ to help runners reach specific 5K goals.
The goal of the event is to help Plains teams with their day-to-day and travel expenses accrued during any season. “These funds will help support our local track and cross-country teams,” Jermy said. “It will help support team coolers, travel costs for post-season, and local scholarships.”
Jermyn said that the Easter Rabbit Race will feature the main 5K event and a one-mile race for youths. The price of admission is $25 for the 5K and $15 for the one-mile race, with the 5K starting at 10 a.m. and the one-mile race at 10:30.
He added that the Rabbit Race is a part of several other activities planned in Plains for that Saturday. The Lions Club pancake feed will be held at the Sanders County fairgrounds until noon and, as a bonus, Jermyn said Rabbit Race runners will get five dollars off breakfast there if they so desire.
