Head coach: Travis Blackmore
Departures to graduation: Eli Blackmore, Sydney Hinthorn, Sadie Newhouse.
Outlook: The roster features a wide range of experience and age, with a total of six seniors and seven freshman.
Last year, Eli Blackmore finished sixth at state, while Nolie Hiatt and Sydney Hinthorn helped lead the girls team to a sixth-place finish. Hiatt is the only one of the three who did not graduate and is expected to be one of the team’s leaders this season.
According to Blackmore, the greens at Mirror Lake Golf Course are in the best condition they have been at this point in the year, which should help with early-season preparation.
It will be a road-heavy season for the Badgers, who have only two home matches and 10 events away from home.
While Blackmore is the only official coach, several volunteers will help the team throughout the season.
Coach’s comments: “I just want improvement,” Blackmore said. “As the kids, I want them to develop a positive attitude of improvement. The score will take care of itself.”
“I have them fill out a get-to-know-you type sheet about what your expectations are,” Blackmore said. “Most all of them, it’s to improve.”
Goals for the season:
“I fully expect to take a team to state,” Blackmore said. “Last year we took the girls and a boy, and this year I hope to take both.”
Players to watch:
“For our boys, Patrick Young is a freshman,” Blackmore said. “I expect he’s going to do extremely well this year.”
“Gabe Warren has made some tremendous improvements from last year,” Blackmore said. “He is showing really good promise right now. He’s playing good golf.”
“I’ve got a lot of first-timers, seniors and kids throughout the whole spectrum of ages,” Blackmore said. “They are showing a lot of promise.”
