1970 Census Forms Being Distributed in Lake County

Questionnaires for the 1970 Census of Population and Housing are being distributed in Polson and throughout the Lake County area this week by the Post Office, it was announced by District Manager Robert S, Hanson.

Distribution of this form before the start of the house-to-house canvass gives the family a chance to assemble information about each member and about the house in advance of the census taker's visit. The District Manager urges all residents to fill out the forms and have them ready for the census takers when they start their rounds on April 1.

The form contains 7 questions about every person in the household and 13 questions about the dwelling. The personal information asked for is: name, address, sex, color or race, month and year of birth, whether married or single, and relationship to head of the household. The information required about the dwelling is: number of rooms, cooking facilities, plumbing, if rented or owned …

Main Street Gets Swept, Scrubbed

If the downtown business district looked like Main Street had been swept and scrubbed down last Sunday morning, there was a reason. It had been.

A group of Main Street store owners hastily organized a work party Saturday afternoon and evening to see if they could put a stop to the dust problem that had been plaguing the business district since the snow melted.

About 6 a.m., they showed up, as did the City Loader and Dump Truck and a few lengths of fire hose. Loose gravel, dirt and debris were windrowed the hard way - pushed by brooms and then scooped up by shovel and put into the loader and dumped into the truck. More than a truckload of debris was taken from the three blocks.

Turning out for the work party were Tom Fetch, Wally Weivoda, Chuck Weivoda, Red Seiller, Bob Smith, Ed Hasley, Rusty McLain, Dick McLain, Ed Templer, Lloyd Crannell, Art Donovan, Paul Fugleberg, Odeen Johnson, Mayor Don Corrigan and Norm Korf.

Work Started On Race Track

With the help of donations and manpower, there will be a race track for Polson and Lake County citizens in time to meet the opening date of May 15. It's to be a quarter-mile track, provided with a pit and bleachers.

The Mission Valley Racing Association is working feverishly to build the track on the ground available for this purpose at the Pony Palace, a mile north of Pablo. Bob Griffin and Ernie Beavers started construction work recently.

Earth-moving equipment has been donated by Phil Cook of Dupuis Brothers. Much more equipment is needed to speed up the work at this time.

People interested in bringing this stock car racing to our area should plan to attend the next meeting of the Assoc. to be held at the Pony Palace on March 30 at 8 p.m. Any offerings of equipment and service will be appreciated.
