Northern Journeys Magazine is expanding into Coeur d’Alene with a new edition designed to give local artists, makers and small businesses a stronger voice in the region’s cultural landscape.
A print publication, Northern Journeys gives space to thoughtful storytelling and highlights the artists shaping the Inland Northwest’s creative identity.
Publisher Jason Thomas said the mission has always been straightforward.
“Northern Journeys exists to promote the creative spirit of the region's artists," Thomas said in a Wednesday news release. "Our job is to make sure the voices of artists, makers and cultural contributors are visible in the communities they help shape.”
Northern Journeys has been published in Sandpoint for 25 years. The new CDA edition will be twice as thick and also published twice a year. This inaugural edition is produced with support from the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission, the Music Conservatory of Coeur d’Alene and a network of local creatives. Advertisers make the publication possible and help build a cultural resource that highlights local art and in turn brings attention to businesses that people want to know about. It features:
• Profiles of regional artists and creative organizations
• A curated guide to local restaurants and small businesses
• An arts and events calendar
• Spotlights on long‑standing CDA businesses that contribute to the city’s economic fabric
• Arts education and student art
Coeur d'Alene-based representative Chelsea Cordova said the magazine fills a gap in the current media environment.
"Artists and small businesses need a platform that isn’t buried in an algorithm," she said. "Print gives them room to tell their story in a way people actually engage with. The art on the cover draws the interest of our reader. It’s simple, it’s accessible and it supports the creative community directly. I've noticed an interest in the analog again.”
The spring/summer 2026 edition arrives in April, timed for the return of seasonal residents and summer visitors who actively seek out local experiences. By elevating the voices of artists and cultural contributors, Northern Journeys aims to strengthen the region’s creative ecosystem and deepen community connection.
Northern Journeys can be picked up free of charge at 190 locations in the Coeur d'Alene and Sandpoint areas. Artists can find submission information within the copy of the publication. The next issue will be released in October, which is National arts and Humanities Month.
