PREP ROUNDUP: Coeur d'Alene frosh Stevens hurls five-inning no-hitter

COEUR d’ALENE — With Coeur d'Alene's No. 1 pitcher, junior Jenna Davenport, in Europe on a choir trip, her Viking teammates made her proud from a distance.
Freshman Savannah Stevens pitched a five-inning no-hitter in the opener, and the host Coeur d’Alene Vikings went on to sweep the Sandpoint Bulldogs 10-0 and 11-0 on Thursday at Larry Schwenke Field.
Stevens struck out 13 and walked two in the opener for Coeur d’Alene (5-0), who has outscored its opponents 49-7. Stevens also fanned nine in the five-inning second game, walking one and allowing four hits.
“Savannah stepped up and earned us two wins with a total of 22 strikeouts," Viking coach Bobbi Darretta said. "Savannah's future is very bright for the Vikings and today I got to watch her shine.”
Molly Nelson went 4 for 6 on the day for the Vikings, with four RBIs and two runs scored. Abbey Linder was 4 for 5 with three RBIs and four runs scored.
Ollie Dudley had a two-run single in the fourth inning of the opener.
Sandpoint is 1-5.
After spring break, Coeur d’Alene returns to action April 9 with a 6A Inland Empire League doubleheader at Post Falls.

COEUR d’ALENE — The host Timberwolves hit four home runs in the sweep of the Bears.
In the first game, Alexandria “Lou” Bracy (formerly Routon) hit a two-run homer in the second inning, Kyla Smith hit a two-run shot in the third and KaeLee Koldon hit a solo homer in the fifth for Lake City (6-1).
In the second game, Tabitha Lopez hit a two-run homer in a 10-run fourth that wiped out a 2-0 Moscow lead. She finished with four RBIs in the game.
Macy Waterhouse hit a two-run double and Karsyn DeMent added a two-run single in that fourth inning.
Hailey Mejie went 6 for 8 on the day with five RBIs and two runs scored.
Moscow is 1-6.
Lake City returns to action April 7 at home vs. Sandpoint in a doubleheader.

POST FALLS — Taylor Busch reached on a hit by pitch and scored the winning run on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning of the first game, and the host Trojans went on to sweep the Bengals.
Junior Riley Carpenter drove in seven runs on the day for Post Falls (4-2). In the second game she hit a two-run double in the third inning and a two-run homer in the sixth.
Kulani Peahu went 5 for 7 on the day for the Trojans with an RBI and six runs scored.
Lexie McCarroll struck out 11 and walked three in the first game for Post Falls.
Lewiston is 1-6.

Jones also had Timberlake’s lone hit, a single in the fourth inning. Colville walked 11 batters and committed six errors.
In the second game, junior Hallah Lee drove in three runs, two on a double in a seven-run first inning for the Tigers (2-2), who led 9-0 after an inning and a half.

MOSCOW — James Morast struck out six over five shutout innings for the Timberwolves in a nonleague win over the Bears at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.
“James did a good job of throwing strikes and we played solid defense behind him,” Lake City coach Gil Pierce said. “It was a good step forward for us and something to continue to build on.”
Brennan Jensen had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored and Aven Adams scored three runs for Lake City (2-6), which hosts Bonners Ferry in a doubleheader on Saturday.
“Brennan was swinging it really good and able to see the ball well today,” Pierce said. “It was just one of those days where the guys were putting the ball in play and everyone played a solid seven innings. We still had some mental errors, but it was a good game for us. We just need to continue to work forward.”

SANDPOINT — Bryce Berger hit a three-run double in the top of the sixth inning for the Trojans in a nonleague win over the Bulldogs at Memorial Field.
Gavin Wienker and Caden Perkins combined to limit the Bulldogs to two hits for Post Falls.
“Gavin was phenomenal on the mound today and really hit his spots and kept them off balance,” Post Falls coach Kurt Reese said. “Caden did a good job of attacking the zone as well. We came out with some good energy, which was nice to see, and a good overall approach.”
Ben Carrasco had two RBIs for Post Falls (2-4), which is scheduled to play a doubleheader against Lewiston on Saturday at Church Field.

Dittman wins pole vault
at Kendrick Invitational
LAPWAI — Kootenai junior Tyla Dittman won the girls pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches at the Kendrick Invitational at Lapwai High.
Sophomore Harleigh Dutton was third in the shot put (31-10 ½) and freshman Hazel Stevenson third in the high jump (4-8) for Kootenai, which finished fifth with 60.5 points.
Grangeville won the boys meet, and Prairie won the girls meet.
