PREP ROUNDUP: Sandpoint girls lacrosse beats Spokane Stealth for first time in program history
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 week, 1 day AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 27, 2026 1:00 AM
GIRLS LACROSSE
Sandpoint 20, Spokane Stealth 8
SANDPOINT — Molly Sloan netted a game-and-career-high nine goals — three in both the second and fourth quarters — and won a game-high nine draw controls, Tess Sloan found nylon four times and dished out a game-high two assists, and the Lady Bulldogs defeated the Spokane Stealth for the first time in program history on Tuesday night at War Memorial Field.
"She won a lot of draw controls, and when she wasn't taking draws, she was near the circle," Sandpoint High sixth-year head coach Nancy Dooley said of Molly Sloan. "She scored a lot of her goals on fastbreaks. She's just great and snagging the ball out of the air and taking off. She has a lot of speed."
Cecilia Dignan scored three goals, caused a game-high three turnovers, scooped up a game-high eight groundballs, and won seven faceoffs while Kat Argabrite chipped in two goals of her own for Sandpoint, which led 11-6 at halftime and outscored the Stealth 9-2 in the second half en route to the WSGL Eastern Division victory.
Grace Gavin picked up seven groundballs, Abigail Baker five, and Molly Sloan four as the Lady Bulldogs posted a 39-12 groundball differential in the game and went a combined for 20-for-32 inside the faceoff circle. Baker and Avi Vachon also scored a goal each in the win.
"With our experience and our speed, we just overpowered them," coach Dooley noted. "One of the things we did really well in the game was having a swarm mentality at midfield — I've been preaching that for six years, especially now that we're able to quickly recover when they have the ball and are moving towards our end. We were able to cause quite a few turnovers by double-and-triple-teaming."
Gavin added two caused turnovers to the stat sheet and Medea Moon saved five shots and got the win in between the sticks for Sandpoint. Lilea Merwin had four goals for Spokane, which lost eight seniors to graduation last season.

SPOKANE — Cecilia Dignan scored a goal in both the first and fourth quarters, goalie Medea Moon locked in for a season-high 13 saves in net, but the Lady Bulldogs came up shy of the Lady Bullpups on Wednesday night in a WSGL Eastern Division game at Gonzaga Prep Stadium.
Grace Gavin, Abigail Baker, and Tess Sloan had five groundballs apiece while Kat Argrabrite and Molly Sloan picked up three each for Sandpoint, which trailed 2-1 at halftime and fended off a power play at one point where three players were sidelined.
"They're a very physical team..." Sandpoint High head coach Nancy Dooley said. "If we can play a cleaner game, and get some more of the calls to go our way, I don't think there's any reason why we can't reverse the score next time."
The game was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but some scheduling conflicts led organizers to move the matchup to Wednesday night with an 8:30 p.m. start time.
Sandpoint (3-1) is off until Wednesday, April 15, when they'll host Gonzaga Prep for another WSGL Eastern Division game at the Field of Dreams in Ponderay.
