The Montana Department of Transportation and its construction partner, Frontier West, are planning to complete repairs on the Kootenai River Bridge along US 2 about one-half mile northwest of Troy.

Preliminary work is scheduled to begin in late March, with a series of temporary nighttime bridge closures starting in late April or early May.

“The current bridge structure serves as an important connector for area residents, business owners and recreationists, but it is aging and in need of repair to enhance safety for the traveling public and to extend the service life of the bridge,” said Jason Livingston, construction project manager for the Department of Transportation.

Construction work will focus on replacing the existing expansion rocker bearings on pier 3 and pier 6 of the bridge. Additional minor repairs to the driving surface and under the bridge deck will also be included in this project.

The contractor plans to maintain signalized, single-lane traffic across the bridge during construction, with eight nighttime temporary bridge closures occurring periodically between the hours of 11:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. A detour route with a 5-ton limit will be available during the closures. The state agency and Frontier West will work to minimize the duration of the night closures and related disruptions. Specific closure dates and times will be communicated through construction signage and variable message signs.
