Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 59 minutes AGO
Lake City junior forward Jordan Carlson, St. Maries senior guard JJ Yearout and Lakeside senior forward Tyson Charley, who all led their teams to state championships, were each named Player of the Year in their respective classifications as the All-Idaho high school boys and girls basketball teams were announced this week by The Idaho Statesman newspaper of Boise.
The 6-foot-8 Carlson, the Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year, averaged 17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.4 blocked shots per game for the Timberwolves, who beat Owyhee for the state title.
“Jordan is a three-level scorer who thrives in all aspects of the game,” Lake City coach James Anderson told the Statesman. “Every time our back was against the wall, he got us important baskets and stops,” Lake City coach James Anderson said.
“Jordan was a matchup nightmare on the offensive side of the floor, where you had to pick your poison with how you chose to defend him,” Owyhee coach Andy Harrington said.
The 6-2 Yearout averaged 19.3 points, 8.1 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 3.2 steals per game for the Lumberjacks, who beat Wendell for the state title.
“He can take over a game on both sides of the floor, whether with a timely steal and dunk, or a quick 3 in transition,” St. Maries coach Bryan Chase said.
“JJ was the most impactful player on both ends of the floor for the best team in the state,” Kellogg coach Mike Martin said. “Nobody turned defense into offense quicker than he did. Most nights, he was given the toughest defensive assignment while also carrying the Lumberjacks offensively.”
St. Maries senior Isaiah Gustaffe was named to the 4A boys second team. He averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 steals.
Chase, who also guided St. Maries to a state title in 2021, was named 4A boys Coach of the Year.

“He did everything for us on both ends of the court. We don’t win without Tyson,” Lakeside coach James Twoteeth said.
“Hands down the best 2A player in the state. He can play and defend any position on the court. He plays with a calm demeanor for such a fierce and explosive competitor,” Valley coach Brian Hardy said.
