Barbara Young Fairlight, 75

Barbara passed away peacefully in her home November 15, 2025.
Barbara was born in Spokane, Washington in 1949. At a young age, her family moved to California. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from Berkeley College. Eventually she got her master’s degree at a university in Puerto Rico.
Her parents, June and Jack Young, moved to Sandpoint in 1970. Barbara taught English in many different countries, including Germany, Chile, South Korea, Mexico and here in Sandpoint. She also tutored many students locally. In between all her travels, she always returned home to Sandpoint.
Besides being a multilingual speaker, she was also an active hospice volunteer. In addition, she belonged to a choral group here in Sandpoint.
Every year, she planted a productive vegetable garden and she added many beautiful flowers and shrubs. She continued to be a world traveler, visiting dear friends in all places.
Her beloved friends and family were always a big part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and June Young; and her brother, Dan Young. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Jones and brother-in-law Leo Jones; brother, Michael Young and sister-in-law Susie Young. She is survived by many cousins and several nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by her unwavering love of family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, April 25, at noon, at the Elks Lodge in Ponderay, Idaho. Open to family and friends.
