Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 1 week AGO
At peace and with his family, Lonnie Yingst, 84, passed away on Feb. 25, 2026.
Lonnie’s journey started in Dayton, Ohio. He met his lifelong love, Ruth, and they married on Nov. 21, 1962, and started their family. After graduating from Wright State University, they moved to Montana, where Lonnie began his lifelong career in education. Lonnie taught at Roosevelt Elementary in Missoula while earning his master’s degree and administrative certification at the University of Montana. That led to serving as principal at Garfield Elementary in Lewistown and later at Riverview Elementary in Great Falls. Lonnie retired in 2007 after serving as assistant superintendent for Great Falls Public Schools.
He was known for his sense of humor and gentle nature. Being involved with his community and helping Ruth with her store, The Country Cupboard, filled his retirement years. Lonnie was happiest going for drives in Glacier National Park with Ruth. He loved playing, watching and talking about sports and visiting with his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by Ruth Ann, his wife of 64 years; children, Karen, Kelly and Joe; grandchildren, Karla, Kelsie, Kourteney, Kristen, Zach and Lexie; sister, Cheryl (Jerry) and brothers, John (Sylvia) and Michael (Belinda); great-grandchildren, Kelton, Karter, Karleigh, Kash and Zetti, as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Martha Yingst.
We hope he’s watching the Bucks and that he’s just peachy. Johnson-Gloschat Funeral Home is caring for the family.
