Mary Jane Hahn, 90, of Post Falls, passed away peacefully Jan. 28, 2026.

She was born in Altus, Ark., on Jan. 10, 1936, the second child born to John E. and Illawynne (Bell) Lauhon. She had one sibling, John Lauhon Jr., seven years her senior. She adored her older brother and parents. She spoke often of missing them and wanting to see them in heaven again.

Mom will be remembered fondly by her four children, Deanne (Shawn) Thomason, Melissa Garcia, Brad (Karen) Elligood, and Brian Hahn. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She was generous to a fault and helped in any way she could, opening her heart, home and wallet for family, friends, and strangers.

Mom was a longtime member of North Country Chapel in Post Falls. She enjoyed being a greeter and giving hugs, handshakes, and passing out smiley-face stickers. She loved her church family and thought Pastor Bob Davis was the best teacher she'd ever heard.

Mom dreamed of being a nurse her whole life. In her 40s, she earned her G.E.D. and completed an LPN certificate program at North Idaho College. Her first nursing job was at Kootenai Hospital, but she later worked for cardiologist James Pataky. She loved her job and her patients.

Our family will never be able to thank Janae Daughtery of Living Springs Assisted Living and her wonderful staff for all the love and care they poured over Mom for the last four years, to our Auburn Crest Hospice family in particular (Holly Dale and Jen Tomason). They truly worked as the heart and hands of Jesus, caring for Mom when we couldn't. A thousand "thank you"s.

The family will have a private gathering later in the year. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Auburn Crest Hospice (1-208-665-8111)
