COEUR d’ALENE — With more chances to get on the mound, the Lake City pitching staff is starting to round into form just as league play begins in a few weeks.
Junior Noah Childress allowed one hit over three scoreless innings of relief in the opener, then seniors Kasen Noffke and Andy Everson combined to strike out nine in the second game as the Timberwolves swept the Bonners Ferry Badgers 11-6 and 5-2 on Saturday at Lake City High.
“With more reps outside, the guys are getting better,” Lake City coach Gil Pierce said. “We did a good job of putting the ball in play in the opener and really had good pitching all day. Our pitchers just went out and did what they had to do all day and got ahead in the count.”
Junior Logan Strimback, senior Kasen Noffke and junior Ethan Stach had two RBIs each in the first game for Lake City, which left 14 on base and trailed 6-2 before scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Strimback and junior Cooper Chaffin had two runs scored each in the second game for the Timberwolves (4-6), who return to action April 7 with a doubleheader at Sandpoint.
“It was good to get a couple of wins before the break,” Pierce said. “We’ll be back to work later this week and try to build on this.”
Jake Solt, Colson Baisden and Ronin Hanson each had three hits on the day for Bonners Ferry (3-5), which travels to Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., on Tuesday.
