North Idaho Christian School reported Monday, March 23, to be an amazing day.
"Our students, staff, parents and corporate sponsors came together and packed over 10,000 meals for students in Bangladesh," North Idaho Christian School Admissions Director Jennifer Scott told The Press. "These meals will be sent to schools where families have little food. Sometimes, this is the only meal they may eat that day."
Students packed nutritious bags of rice, dehydrated vegetables, protein and vitamin powder with lentils.
The school set a fundraising goal of $75,000 to accompany the project. It was nearing that goal when $71,000 had been raised by packing day.
"We are honored and blessed every year to fundraise for NICS in this special way," Scott said.
She said fundraising for a private school can be difficult.
"We strive to keep our tuition affordable; that can impact our budget and limit what necessary improvements we can make toward our school," she said. "Whether that is for building improvements, technology or upgrading playground equipment, it is not an easy task to raise $75,000 for our small community. It never stops surprising me how God shows up every year for this fundraiser."
The fundraiser ended with the school packing meals together as an act of tithing back to God's people, Scott said.
"Our hope and prayer is that the children in Bangladesh who receive this food will be physically nourished but also spiritually," she said.
