For Jessica McMurray, relationships are the bedrock of business.

Her career in the construction industry began at a woman-owned company in Tucson, Arizona, where she took on the role of project coordinator and office administrator.

After moving to Idaho, she saw how easy it was for anyone to become a registered contractor — as well as the “disasters” that inexperienced and unskilled contractors were leaving in their wake.

“I knew there had to be a way to help the community in a positive light,” she said.

McMurray founded Fox Contracting Services and set out to find the best registered and licensed contractors in North Idaho. Her process is unlike other services. She is a referral service for home-property owners, looking for skilled contractors in the area. These contractors are vetted to the fullest; they are background checked, DOPL checked, and go through an extensive process before being added to the list.

“I love to network,” McMurray said. “I like building relationships, speaking to people and learning about their whys and passions.”  Those networking skills helped her to develop a carefully curated list of contractors for any project and needs related to home remodeling and more. McMurray said she’s built “phenomenal” relationships between Fox Contracting Services, her roster of contractors and homeowners throughout the area.

McMurray said she aims to grow her business over the next five years, creating a household brand that continues to serve communities near and far. Currently her services are available in Idaho, Washington, and Arizona.

She encourages young entrepreneurs to embrace curiosity and learning without fear of failure. She said cultivating resilience and that willingness to learn will help a business owner to navigate life’s challenges and foster meaningful connections with others. Her favorite entrepreneur is her young daughter, McKenzie, who won the 2025 Kootenai County Lemonade Day award.

"Helping my daughter curate a brand and make a business and grow was a great accomplishment," McMurray said. "She is my number one fan and helping her with a goal and vision was exciting!”

“Exploring interests outside your comfort zone can lead to unexpected opportunities and growth,” McMurray said. “It’s important to understand that mistakes are part of the journey and can be valuable lessons. Staying open-minded and adaptable will serve you well, both personally and professionally.”

McMurray said she looks forward to building the trust between contractors and homeowners in years to come!
