40 Under 40: Peter Mahoney
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 2 days, 21 hours AGO
As the wellness services director for Marimn Health, Peter Mahoney, is focused on helping others be as healthy as they can be.
Mahoney has worked at Marimn Health and with the Coeur d’Alene Tribe for the past 11 years. Most of the positions he has held have focused on preventive care in one way or another.
“I have always had a passion for increasing the quality of life for those in my community. That is what has drawn me to work in health care on the preventive side,” he said.
While his education is broad-ranging, Mahoney said that diversity allows him to see connections between health and different environments.
“My education has been eclectic, to say the least,” he said. “It allows me to see the depth and vastness of how everything about the environments we exist in affects our health. This allows me to support my team in developing a wide variety of healthy living opportunities for a diverse population.”
Mahoney credits his parents and family for who he is and what he has accomplished.
His parents started close to 10 successful businesses in a town of fewer than 1,000 people, and he said he is blessed with an amazingly supportive wife and four children. Key experiences include building canoes, attending multiple universities and the opportunity to play sports from elementary school through college — all of which helped shape him as a person.
He plans to continue serving the Coeur d’Alene Tribe in a way that increases the community’s quality of life.
If he could give his younger self one piece of advice, it would be to understand the value of hard work.
“Hard work will pay off in ways you can see, and in many ways that you can’t,” he said.
