Game 1: Lake City 11, Bonners Ferry 6

A late rally by the Lake City Timberwolves was the decider in the first game of a doubleheader on May 28.

Despite two hits apiece from Ronin Hanson, Jake Solt, Colton Baisden and Jack Woods, the Badgers did not score after the fourth inning, ultimately falling short by five runs.

Bonners Ferry started well, with three singles in a row from Keenan Maas, Jack Woods and Ronin Hanson contributing to a Badger run in the first inning. However, a wild pitch and an error gave the Timberwolves the lead in the bottom of the inning.

Colton Baisden and Stryder Liermann each singled in the second as the Badgers tied the game up. Four hits in the third inning gave Bonners Ferry a 5-2 lead after three innings, with RBI’s from Baisden and Tyson Dickson.

An RBI from Solt in the fourth stretched the Badger lead to four runs, but the bottom of the fourth was an inning to forget for Bonners Ferry.

Two hit by pitches and a walk to start the bottom of the fourth were far from ideal. However, the Badgers picked up two quick outs. Needing just one good pitch to get out of the jam, the Timberwolves struck, collecting four hits in a row and scoring six runs to take a two-run lead in the ballgame.

After a scoreless Bonners Ferry top of the fifth, Lake City tacked on three more in the fifth and to take an insurmountable 11-6 lead.

Gordon Woelfle pitched two scoreless innings for the Badgers.

Five errors from the Bonners Ferry defense were costly in a game in which they did not record an extra-base hit.

Game 2: Lake City 5, Bonners Ferry 2

In a game where pitching dominated, Bonners Ferry could not get going despite a complete game from Liermann as they lost both games in a doubleheader.

The Badgers fell behind early, giving up three runs in the first two innings. The third and fourth innings were scoreless for both teams.

In the fifth, walks from Woelfle, Liermann and Hanson, plus singles from Solt and Woods, put two runs on the board to make it a 3-2 ballgame. However, Lake City responded in the bottom half of the frame with three singles of their own to restore a three-run advantage. There would be no more scoring.

The two losses put the Badgers at 3-5 on the season, ranked 76 in Idaho. They next play at home April 6 against North Central. The game is at 2 p.m.

Bonners Ferry will then play a doubleheader versus Coeur d’Alene on March 11, also at home. The first game will start at noon.
